A New Year of Learning: Preparations

August 25, 2008 · Print This Article

While summer holidays and traveling can be a very educational experience, the inspiration to write about it is more present during the period the real learning takes place and lessons are being taught. Now things are starting up again, Streamlined Mind gets a little check up (you know, checking her oil level, tire pressure) and now seems ready for a new year of productive learning!

Before we start off, a big thank you to Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, the President of DEVONtechnologies for linking to my post Would a Paperless Life Make You Happy? on his blog The Balcony. I love their products, DEVONthink in particular!

The start of a new year of studying is a good moment to think about the things we need to start out well prepared! Will we run to the mall on the first morning of the new school year to buy some notebooks or is it worth taking some extra time to think of possible ways to organize our year better then the one before?

Stuff can not make you a good student, but if you choose wisely you can make it easier for yourself to stay focused and get your work and assignments done before the deadline suddenly strikes.

The coming weeks I will have a look at some of the questions that come to mind while preparing for a new year of learning. Like how am I going to plan my time this year? How will I remember the information given to me this year? What kind of computer shall I buy? How can I make a better impression as a student?

If there’s a subject you would like to see in this series, please leave a comment of send me a message to let me know, and I’ll see if I can include it!
